Technical SEO Explained

Content strategy on top of a technically broken site is decoration on a foundation that can't hold weight.

Technical SEO Explained

SEO conversations tend to jump straight to content: keywords, blog posts, backlinks. Technical SEO is the less glamorous layer underneath all of that: making sure a search engine can actually crawl, understand, and trust your site in the first place. Get this wrong, and the best content strategy in the world is fighting an uphill battle.

What 'technical' actually covers

It includes site speed (search engines factor this directly into ranking), mobile responsiveness, a clean and logical URL structure, correct use of structured data so search engines understand what a page actually is, and making sure pages that should be indexed aren't accidentally blocked. Most of this is invisible to a visitor, which is exactly why it's easy to neglect and expensive to ignore.

The audit most sites actually need

A genuinely useful technical SEO audit checks: can search engines crawl every page that matters, does the site have duplicate content issues from URL variations, are meta titles and descriptions actually present and distinct per page, and is Core Web Vitals performance in an acceptable range. These are concrete, fixable items, not a mysterious algorithm to guess at.

The businesses that win at organic search long-term are rarely the ones producing the most content. They're the ones whose technical foundation lets search engines find, understand, and trust what they've already built.
